What is the typical lifespan of wood-plastic composite (WPC) gratings?
Under normal installation and proper maintenance, the lifespan of WPC gratings is generally around 15 to 25 years. High-quality outdoor co-extrusion products can even last 25 to 30 years.
The lifespan is mainly affected by the following factors:
* Process and Materials: Co-extrusion (with an outer weather-resistant layer) is far superior to ordinary one-piece extrusion; virgin materials with a high proportion of wood powder are more durable, while recycled materials are prone to aging and cracking.
* Usage Scenarios: In dry indoor environments, it can generally last over 20 years; outdoors, exposed to long-term sun and rain, choosing the right outdoor-specific UV-resistant formula is crucial.
* Installation and Maintenance: Ensure proper spacing between joists (generally 30-40cm), adequate ventilation and drainage, and avoid prolonged water immersion; daily rinsing with clean water is sufficient; avoid using strong acids or alkalis or scraping with steel wool.
For low-cost renovations of short-term rental properties, a standard renovation plan will last 10-15 years. For long-term owner-occupancy, especially for outdoor yards, opt for branded co-extruded wood-plastic composites. This results in lower average annual costs and essentially eliminates the need for painting or maintenance, keeping the property looking new for a long time.
